Cliff Mautner Cliff is a fantastic wedding photographer, one of the best in the world. He doesn't need a plug from me, trust me, he has achieved a number of well deserved accolades, but he is a personal favorite. To me, what makes a really great photographer is his or her personal style. To distill it down for idiots like myself, it's what makes him different that makes him special. He is a master of low light composition and he creates incredibly beautiful and poignant images that capture the essence of his clients. Suffice to say, I am a huge fan.
David Ziser David Ziser is incredible. I recently attended his conference as he toured 60 cities across the USA and I learned a ton sitting in the audience in the Atlanta Hyatt in Buckhead about how to create dramatic lighting with a Qflash and a speedlight. I was fortunate enough to shake his hand and tell him thanks for be so open and giving; it was his character and his willingness to share the knowledge he has accumulated over 30 years that impressed me, but it was his personal charm that endeared him to me. What a great human being.
Joe McNally Joe McNally is one of the premiere professional photographers on the planet. He shoots Nikon and I read anything he writes, listen to anything he says and is one of the ten people I would love to have a cup of coffee with one day.
Kevin Kubota Voted one of the world's best wedding photographers, his work is beautiful and astounding. Additionally, Kevin is a Photoshop guru and markets a number of action products and tutorials for Lightroom workflow and album production. I had a chance to meet Kevin for the first time at a WPPI Roadshow here in Atlanta in September of 2009. He was affable and down to earth and enjoyed his presentation and learned a few things as he spoke.
Kristy Dickerson Kristy is a fantastic photographer that I have had the pleasure to shoot a few weddings with. I love her style and she has a beautiful sense of timing and a great eye. She is very talented and establishes a great rapport with clients; they just love her.
Marcus Bell Marcus Bell is a phenomenal photographer from down under. Very talented Nikon shooter that is extremely versatile and a really talented wedding shooter.
Steve Glass A consummate professional with a real flair for the artistic and amazing timing on the shutter. He is a fantastic talent at capturing those tantalizing candid shots at weddings. Always learning, teaching and growing in his craft. His style is unique, distinctive and beautiful. Steve is a personal friend, but more than that he is a brother from a different mother, someone who shoots me straight, no varnish, no sauce, just the facts and I appreciate his honesty and candor more than he'll ever know. God bless him and his family and if you are looking for a finger on a trigger he's your guy.
Tricia Whitmer Tricia is a fantastic photographer. Her portrait and wedding work is amazing and worth a look. She is an inspiration to me and a fabulous talent that recently shared some of her trade secrets in a workshop; money well spent and I highly recommend you attend one of her workshops if you ever get the opportunity.
Greetings to everyone and a best wishes for a safe and happy Independence Day! Lots of stuff going on with the studio. The new Jeffrey Franks Photography blog is now online; future client and studio information will be posted at Jeffrey Franks Photography Blog. Please follow the link and take a look at our new blog and be sure to tell us what you think.
This blog will begin a transition to a site devoted to photography equipment reviews, photographic techniques, digital darkroom software tools and techniques, etc... So, this blog's name will be changing in the near future as well as it's focus. Our intent is to create a site that will be extremely useful for photographers and digital image editors. There will be much more to come soon. We have plans for a face lift once we complete current work on a new wedding and portrait site. We will also be updating our Photoshelter site and are about to begin design and development on a studio specific website. Whew! It's going to be a busy summer, but we can't wait to finish what we've begun.
Once again, happy Independence Day. Don't forget to thank the members of our armed forces for their sacrifice and their service, you'll make their day.
Kristell and Dirk met at UNC and fell in love shortly thereafter; Dirk is now serving in Afghanistan with the USMC and Kristell is in graduate school in North Carolina. Dirk is home on leave and he and Kristell will be married early this fall. This very handsome couple were fun to be around and we had a lot of fun during their engagement shoot.
Kristell wanted to shoot in downtown Atlanta, Dirk grew up here in Atlanta, and we started at the SunTrust Plaza and Garden and the beautiful Milton Arch right across the street. Kristell, Dirk and I walked up Peachtree Street all the way to the Ritz Carlton and shot some very nice ambient light images guerrilla style. Then we loaded up in my truck, along with Steve Glass who was helping me out with lighting and Kristell's very sweet mother who will be grateful that I don't misspell her name, and shot some images on some railroad tracks, around the Fox Theater and a beautiful fountain in front of the Federal Home Bank building.
Here are a couple of images from our shoot this morning, more to follow.
Barbara and I had the distinct pleasure to meet Candi and Sam at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for their engagement shoot. They are such a sweet couple, good looking, fun loving and so grounded. They have been dating for eight years and will be getting married this fall at the Atrium. We can't wait to be there and document their official beginning, but trust me when I tell you these guys are so in love and it was so obvious they are well on their way to a lifetime of married bliss.
We really enjoyed getting to know them and the more we learned the more we fell in love with these two. Barbara and I have officially adopted them and we wish them more happiness than their hearts can handle. We sat down and ate ribs at Fat Matt's Rib Shack, awesome eats, on Piedmont and listened to some live blues swapped stories. What a great day to be a photographer, meeting Candi and Sam makes it all worthwhile.
Here is a shot from our session and we'll be posting more soon and can't wait to shoot their wedding.
First, the online gallery for Jessica and Jonathan is targeted for availability on July 2nd, 2010. I know everyone is anxious to see the images, but you have to understand that during the middle of wedding season everything gets a little backed up and it takes a longer than normal for the post processing of images.
We are proud of our affiliation with PWD Labs and rely on their talented editors to cull and post process our images to 'proof ready' status. They're great at what they do and we ask for your patience while they are busy working through the tremendous backlog of images; I promise that everyone will love the results, they're the best at what they do.
So, in the meantime, I will continue to post a collection of images from the rehearsal and the wedding while the nice folks at PWD Labs do that voodoo that they do so well.
We hope Jessica and Jonathan had the time of their lives in Jamaica and we can't wait to see them again.
Jessica and Jonathan were married on Saturday, June 12th, 2010 in a beautiful ceremony at the picturesque Cavender Castle here in Dahlonega, GA. Jessica was absolutely stunning in her gorgeous gown, so many details and it fit her like a glove; she was breathtakingly beautiful. Jonathan could not have been more handsome in his tuxedo; the two of them were a perfect match as they stood at the altar in front of friends and family to recite their vows and exchange their rings. The wedding was a memorable event. The kindness, humor and hospitality of Jessica and Jonathan's family and friends made me feel so comfortable and appreciated. Thanks to each of you and it was a real pleasure to be a part of the culmination of such an epic romance.
Jonathan and Jessica have been dating for eight years. There was so much love and friendship on display that I felt myself getting swept away by the strong current of emotion that was flowing through those of us fortunate enough to be in attendance. I know I speak for my entire team (Kristy Dickerson, Steve Glass, Alex Smith, Dana Hornbeck and the love of my life, my wife, Barbara Franks) when I say we were all touched by their beautiful romance and we were very honored to participate and document their special day. I want to thank the very talented photographers for their superb effort and the fantastic images they captured; thanks very much ladies and gentlemen, excellent work once again.
I am posting some images that begin the day before at the rehearsal and flow chronologically from the gathering of Jessica and her matron of honor and bridesmaids at J. Thomas Salon early the day of the wedding and end with her and Jonathan's departure to begin their honeymoon in Jamaica. These images are pretty much right out of the camera, but I really wanted to post a few images right away for Jessica and Jonathan's family and friends. Post processing will begin tomorrow on the almost 6,000 images we all captured; I cannot wait to be able to post the images online for all to see. More details soon, please keep checking the blog.
After the ceremony, Amber and Josh posed with the harpist near the altar for this image. I asked them to look down at the harpist as if she were playing a special song just for them. I really liked the rich tones and their posture and wanted to share this image with everyone.
The images from the wedding are being edited in post production now and will be available online by June 12th. If you have any questions about how to view Amber and Josh's private online gallery please don't hesitate to contact the studio so we may assist.
Curtis Jones, Pete Orenstein and Mark Letalien, three members of Insonnia, performed at the beautiful Montaluce Winery on Monday, May 31st, 2010. It was a great Memorial Day for those lucky enough to be in attendance. Here are a few images from the performance and a shot of the group out in the vines.
Amber & Josh were married at a beautiful venue in Maysville, Georgia called The Grove. The cute couple exchanged their vows in front of friends and family in the upstairs chapel and held a reception downstairs. The facilities were beautiful and the details were gorgeous and plentiful.
Amber and Josh are on their way to Honolulu this morning for their honeymoon. We wish them all the happiness in the world as they begin their new lives together. We wish their family and friends well also and enjoyed meeting and spending some time with them.
I had a wonderful team of photographers for Amber & Josh's beautiful ceremony and reception. Steve Glass, Dana Hornbeck, Barbara Franks (my extraordinary wife) and myself. Wonderful work from each of them and some incredible and poignant images I am sure will be cherished by those in attendance.
Finally, Louie, Amber's father, and I have had the opportunity to speak on the phone many times before the wedding and we've become friends without ever laying eyes on one another. It was a real pleasure to meet him in person, but as any wedding photographer knows, time is a precious commodity for a photographer and we didn't have a lot of time to visit. I look forward to future opportunities to visit Louie and his family, my brother from a different mother.
I have uploaded Heather & Jason's wedding image gallery. The online gallery is password protected so contact either Heather or Jason to get the password; there are nearly 2,400 images from their beautiful wedding. Alex and I had a blast documenting the joyous event and are so proud we were allowed to participate. Special thank you to Jason and Heather and to all their family and friends. Enjoy!
Isn't Heather just drop dead gorgeous in this image? She is beautiful inside and out and Jason and her are so perfect together. Long life and much happiness to both of them.
Jennifer and Aldrich are both medical professionals; Jennifer is a registered nurse and Aldrich is a medical doctor. They met at work, I teased them about their Grey's Anatomy type romance. They are such a cute couple and I really enjoyed our session at Berry College.
Berry College is a wonderful place to shoot and we had a blast around the Ford buildings, Frost Chapel and playing with the water fowl around Swan Lake. Aldrich and Jen have wonderful personalities; friendly, warm and inviting. It was a real pleasure spending some time with this loving couple and I am really looking forward their wedding.
